Mallows by Volodymyr Patyk

The artist was born in the village of Chorny Ostriv, Zhydachiv district, Lviv region. He studied at an art and industrial school. In 1953, he graduated from the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (now the Lviv National Academy of Arts).

In 1969 Volodymyr created wall paintings in the lobby of the cinema named after Bohdan Khmelnytskyi in Lviv — "Khmelnytskyi near Lviv in 1648". In the design of facades and lobbies of public buildings, Patyk showed himself to be an optimistic artist of an innovative direction.

The artist freed himself from the "Soviet shackles" when Ukraine gained independence. In 1992-1998, the artist was invited to teach at his alma mater, he accepted and in 1994 became an Associate Professor of the Painting Department of the Lviv Academy of Arts.

The opening of borders allowed the artist to make numerous trips. In September 1993, Volodymyr's first trip to France took place — it was a business trip to decorate the exterior of the chapel. A year later he visited long-dreamed-of Paris: he visited museums and painted interiors.

In 1998, Volodymyr Patyk received the highest artistic award of Ukraine — the State Prize named after Taras Shevchenko. The painter traveled all over Ukraine along the paths of Shevchenko, contemplating the local landscapes.

The artist traveled all the time — he worked en plein air with friends and family. In all his journeys, he painted tirelessly, all day long. In most cases, the artist recorded on the canvas not the modern, but the ancient Motherland.

The artist resorted to the contrast of red and green, orange-yellow and blue-violet, red and white, to various techniques — mosaics, frescoes, oil painting, pastels, various graphic means. Landscapes, which the artist captured during numerous creative journeys, still life — all this is characterized by a special plasticity, intense color and an expressive manner of writing, which reflects his impulsive, irrepressible character.

Volodymyr Patyk has gained wide international recognition - in addition to numerous exhibitions in Canada and the United States of America. In 2011, the artist had a personal exhibition at a museum in Hangzhou, China. Most of the works were purchased and remain in private collections.

Volodymyr Patyk left this world in August 2006. In honor of his art and memory, his wife and daughter founded Patyk Foundation in 2020.
