Pewter utensils for oil, gas and electric stoves

The pewter used in Mexican kitchens is part of our popular culture, and is there to tell our story.

In the 1930s, the new way of cooking was on an oil stove, which required new utensils. It was then that the pewter made its appearance in the kitchen. These same utensils would then be used for gas and electric stoves.<br>

Concave pewter container with two "ears" on which a handle is attached. It also features a lid and a capacity from 1 to 5 liters. Pewter is an alloy of tin, copper, antimony and lead. Once the metals are melted, the utensils are formed. It is after these utensils are bathed in a ceramic enamel that pewter is born.<br>

CASSEROLE POT

Casserole pots are an important part of the cookware set. A container with straight walls, handles, and in different sizes. Their colors: the classic turquoise blue and brown. And their greatest advantage? They do not alter the flavors of the food.<br>

Pewter was chosen for its unique attributes: material, design, colors and low cost. Being a material that allowed better heat conduction, it was one of the most used utensils for electric stoves.<br>

Vessels with straight walls and a long handle. Utensils that are easy to wash and durable, as long as they do not chip. Fundamental in the kitchen because of their daily use.<br>

Pewter became an inexpensive material, which was only used for cooking.<b> </b>The company Cinsa, in Saltillo, Coahuila, has been manufacturing these utensils for more than 90 years.<br>

Every kitchen has to be equipped with these utensils, as they are artifacts that remain current despite the years. Pewter became an inexpensive material, which was only used for cooking.<br>

SPOONS, LADLES AND SLOTTED SPOONS

Long-handled spoons for serving food. The ladle is used in the kitchen used to pass liquids from one container to another, and in the dining room to distribute certain foods on plates. The slotted spoon is used to remove fried or cooked food from a pan or pot.<br>

Their material, design and turquoise blue color make them very attractive, and they became the most classic and well-known line for this color.<br>

MUG

Cylindrical cup with handle. Kids use them to drink beverages, while adults use them to boil water. These mugs from the CINSA factory in Saltillo became indispensable in Pueblan homes.<br>

DEEP SAUCEPAN

A narrower yet tall container that has a long arm instead of handles and a 2.2 liter capacity. It is used to cook foods, such as eggs.<br>

COFFEE POT, MUG, MILK PITCHER

Coffee pot and milk pitcher in the classic turquoise blue color. The coffee pot without a lid and the mug in a lime green color. All show the wear and tear of time in chips and missing lids.<br>

LADLE

Pieces that are linked to each other; the common thread that feeds this inventory is the ladle.

BAKING DISHES

Elongated piece with straight walls, with or without handles (on purpose) for baking. Formerly used to carry solid food to the table. The pieces are damaged by improper handling: impacts, exposure of the piece to extreme temperatures, heating the empty piece, letting liquids evaporate in the flame, letting the flame go up the walls of the vessel.<br>

BAKING DISHES

In Mexico, it was not long ago that pewter utensils were considered to be for the lower class. However, pewter is getting a second life, as pieces can now be found for all tastes and budgets. There is also even tableware created by contemporary designers.
