MUSEO URBANI - Tradizional Old Truffle BasketsMuseimpresa
The Beginning: 1852
Costantino Urbani in 1852, from the small village of Scheggino in Umbria, started the export of fresh truffles to France, in Carprenteras.
In Carprentas in France, not far from Avignon, Costantino Urbani created a current business that has grown more and more ever since.
Enhance and expand the excellence of the territory.
At the dawn of the new century, Paolo Senior exports fresh and preserved black truffles from Norcia throughout Europe.
The export quickly spread to France, Germany, Switzerland and, at the same time, also to the other regions of Italy.
A small laboratory was born next to the River Nera, with the first employed workers, so to carefully select and wash these precious "black diamonds" of the earth.

Invention & Ingenuity
"A specimen from 1913 of a heat-sealed glass bottle with 2 kilos of prized black truffles. The truffles still look great!"
At the end of nineteenth century, Paolo Urbani began buying truffles from the many amateur hunters in the hills around the town of Scheggino. The clear and extremely cold waters of River Nera, were the last place the truffle-hunters stopped before coming to Urbani's truffle processing room.
As the demand for French truffles grew, many Italian Tuber Melanosporum were shipped to Perigord and repackaged, labelled "Produit de France". Urbani realized that he needed to become a producer, not simply a wholesaler, and so he learned the Appert-Rousseau process and improved on it. His sealed glass containers, gave his truffles a longer shelf life and put Urbani (and Scheggino) on the map.

Carlo Urbani
There is always, in every human undertaking, something that day after day, guides decisions and actions on a cohere path and success.
At the beginning of the twentieth century the Urbani family expanded its business.
It is Carlo Urbani, son of Paolo Senior, who with great entrepreneurial ability consolidates the position in the world market.
Carlo Urbani, realized that America was the company's future
With his father, Paolo Senior, ordered his cousin to go to New York to start a U.S.branch. The archives are full of plaintive letters from Paul, insisting that the idea was hopeless. There were many challenges to face.
Carlo as a great businessman held firm, Paul stayed and was ultimately able to convince Americans that the truffle was not a potato gone bad or chocolate, but a gustatory delight.

Great success always evolves with new generations!
From the 50s Paolo Jr. and Bruno constantly tried to spread their products outside of this land, thus enhancing the knowledge even in countries that did not know what a truffle is. This has strengthened the marketing action in the world and the recognition of the product.
Paolo and Bruno Urbani represent the fourth generation responsible for the transformation of a solid and large company. Furthermore, it doesn't take them long time to understand that only by transmitting to the new generations, this great passion for the product and for the beloved territory that surrounds them, can create great works of cultural and environmental sustainability impact.
The museum was founded in 2012 by Olga Urbani in memory of her father Cav.Lav. Paolo Urbani. https://www.museodeltartufourbani.it/
