Hallasan Mountain, rising sharply from the center of Jejudo Island, provides a fertile backdrop to Jeju’s splendid culture. Along with Geumgangsan and Jirisan Mountains, Hallasan has long been regarded as one of Korea’s sacred mountains, where spiritual immortals were said to reside, as well as the home of many local myths and legends. Indeed, the mountain is well loved and respected by the people of Jeju as their great pride and spiritual home.
This special exhibition constitutes the first attempt to present the overall collection of our Korean ancestors’ cultural heritages and academic achievements related to Hallasan Mountain. It is hoped the exhibition will provide visitors with an interesting moment to appreciate the wonder our Korean ancestors felt about the mountain, and offer profound insights into the unique life styles of Jeju’s inhabitants.
