The vibrant blue of playtime

For his work Goal, Winifrid photographed young Tanzanian schoolchildren playing a soccer during their breaktime.

How does a breaktime soccer match happen?

As Winifrid explains "the match happens when student brings a homemade ball to school and his friends pick a rival class to play against.

No coach, no referee, no teacher involved!

Remembering his own days of playing like this Winfred stats  "just like that we played together with just the aim of having fun, getting to know each other and forming friendships among us."

It's more than just play

For Winifred the deep blue of the children's uniforms represent not only the public school children themselves but  Dar es Salaam and the whole of Tanzania as well.

What does Winifrid think it means to be African?

"To be African means to redefine the narrative that underpins African history.

It is time that we use the power of storytelling to create and highlight the narratives that empower and move us forward together as Africans."
