Throughout Egypt sizzling dishes of different meats can be ordered, made, and bought. Below are a few of the country's delicious meat dishes you have to try.

1. Fattah

Fattah combines layers of toasted pita bread, rice, meat, and poultry (or vegetables in some levant Arab countries) with a sauce lightly added to each layer. The Egyptian version is a staple at big religious events for both Muslims and Egyptian Coptics alike.

Egyptian Baladi bread is served along with white rice and beef or mutton,  dressed in a garlic and vinegar-based tomato sauce. Some Egyptian households prefer to keep their Fattah's white, adding only the meat broth to the garlic and vinegar.

2. Gollash

Gollash is a dish made up of filo pastry stuffed with minced meat. This popular dish is present at all family gatherings.  Egyptians consider Gollash a side dish which accompanies main dishes. The special flavour comes from the spices added to the meat before it is combined with the filo pastry layers.

The depth of the sauce's flavor in the Kabab Halla makes it an amazing comfort food eaten with vermicelli rice, especially on colder days.

4. Kebab Kofta

Kabab refers to barbecued mutton meat cubes, while Kofta refers to barbecued finger shaped mutton mince. The coal used in the barbecue process, and the unique Egyptian spice mix which is added to the meat, create the flavorful aroma which emanates from this dish.

However, unlike normal mincemeat sandwiches -  in Hawashy - the dough is not fully cooked when raw minced meat is added. Spices, fresh tomatoes, peppers, and diced onions are then stuffed into the bread.

6. Alexandrian Sausage

Egyptian sausage is prepared by butchers, each of whom add their own special spice mixture to the meat. When mixed with fresh tomatoes, green peppers, and onions, in addition to a kick of chilli pepper or powder, they become à la Alexandrians.

As much as both Kebda (beef liver), or Sugo'(Egyptian Sausage) can be cooked at home, sometimes as sandwiches, or as the main meat dish alongside other side dishes, Egypt is famous for  Kebda and Sogo' sandwiches sold on the street.
