Artist Mohamed Moulud Yeslem uses painting to explore identity and politics of place. In his paintings #El Barco del Desierto he uses a boat which has been in an Algerian Sahrawi refugee camps for 34 years to symbolise his position.
The painting is a meditation on what it means to be free and the role art plays in peaceful politics.
Mohamed speaks about identity and being African
Being African is diversity, generosity and solidarity. Africa is the book where all the history of man is written; his past, his present and his future. This sacred book is in the custody of the authentic and diverse peoples of Africa.
