and in the traditional parade, where the honorary escort of the President of the Republic is expected along Via dei Fori Imperiali both on horseback and by motorbike.

The motorbikes

They are extra-large in size, specially made for the Cuirassiers.

With an impressive weight (about 350 kg) they test the ability and balance of the motorcycle Cuirassier especially in escorts carried out at slower speeds, such as that of the parade.

The Uniform for special occasions

In the events of the Republic Day, the Cuirassiers wear the Grand Gala uniform.

It is composed of a helmet with a long tail and a plume, a breastplate and a sabre.

The helmet

The helmet consists of a crest (the highest ornament) of stamped goldsmithing, a cup of nickel silver and two earlobes (cheekpieces) of stamped goldsmithing; it is lined internally with leather.

The helmet's mane was once made of horsehair, now it is synthetic.

The armor

The Grand Gala uniform is the only one that includes armor.

Carefully polished by each Cuirassier in the days preceding the Republic Day, it is kept together with the helmet in wooden cases, lined on the inside with sponge and fabric, to preserve them.

The Cuirassier's sabre is “unique” among those of the Armed Forces.
