This huge garden set inside towering geodesic domes is home to over 1,300 different species and cultivars of plant. The plants originate from the Mediterranean Basin and other places in the world with a similar warm temperate climate – South Africa, California and Western Australia. These regions tend to have hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters.

The Western Australia Garden is one of the newest additions to the Biome and boasts iconic grass trees and furry, brightly coloured kangaroo paw flowers.

This artwork by Tim Shaw among the grape vines of the Mediterranean Biome is called 'The Rites of Dionysus'. The sculptures depict the myth of Dionysus, Greek god of the vines, and his followers, the Maenads, who dance and writhe through the vines beating drums and sounding trumpets.

Persian buttercups have provided spectacular colour in the centre of the Mediterranean Biome.

Citrons, Mediterranean Biome (2020) by Eden ProjectEden Project

These enormous citron fruits grow in the Citrus Grove at the centre of the Mediterranean Biome.

Olive, Mediterranean Biome (2020) by Eden ProjectEden Project

This olive tree was planted in the Biome in 2019, along with two other enormous specimens. In the Spain and Portugal they were removed to make way for younger trees and are thought to be up to 1,500 years old.
