The intangible UNESCO cultural heritage ‘German Bread Culture’ is the centrepiece of the exhibition. The bakery trade is shown here across borders as a pan-European heritage and makes bread tangible as a cultural ambassador.

2. Our daily bread
‘Our daily bread’ is not a matter of course, it is the result of the labour of many hands: farmer, miller, baker. The little bakery from the Kulmbach region around 1700 delights young and old alike.

3. From grain to bread
The imposing three-storey mill from the Kulmbach region - the ‘Neidsmühle’ - bears witness to how grain was ground into flour. It vividly illustrates the work of the miller and the individual work steps in a grain mill.

4. From baking crafts...
Baking is a craft, knowledge and technical progress. The old bakery is the glowing heart of the bakery, where experience and hard work turned flour into bread. It brings to life the arduous working world of the baker of that time.

5. ...to baking business
The village bakery shop - also known as a corner shop - tells the story of how the baker used to sell many other everyday items in addition to baked goods in a small village.

6. From the baker to the breakfast table
The baker's bicycle was used by the baker to transport his bread and baked goods - baked goods distribution in earlier times.
