The theory of the Big Bang was a culmination by various scientists of the 20th century such as Edwin Hubble, Albert Einstein, Aleksander Friedmann, George Ganau and finally termed by Fred Hoyle in 1950. It is interesting to see that this theory was discovered as recently as the 20th century, but was actually written in the Quran 21:30 in 600AD. "The heavens & the Earth were joined together and We split them thereunder" It is this splitting of the Heavens & the Earth that is referred to as the Big Bang.

SPLITTING OF THE HEAVENS & THE EARTH II
The diptych was created to depict the the splitting of the heavens and the earth. The textural surface represents the particles of matter during this explosion of smokey gaseous matter, hence the smokey colours of the heavens and the earth.
