All City Canvas started in 2012, inspired by the Mexican muralist movement, as one of the most important urban festivals in the world in Mexico City, All City Canvas has evolved the way it spreads its message and is currently one of the most influential street culture platforms. The artist
Miles “Mac” MacGregor, was born in LA in 1980. From a young age he studied and he began painting graffiti under the pseudonym “Mac” in the 90s. He has been known for his realistic depictions of both ordinary and ethereal people, and his unique style and flawless technique. He has been inspired by Mexican and Chicano culture in Phoenix and the American Southwest. He has also been heavily influenced by classic artists such as Caravaggio and Vermeer.
The techique
El Mac is famous for his unique use of faded lines. To achieve this effect, El Mac freezes the cans and plays with different ranges of pressure.
The mural
The woman represented by El Mac is María Guardado. Born in El Salvador, her activist work in organizing farmers and teachers, led to her abduction and torture by the military. She survived and sought refuge in California. Granted political asylum, Maria Guardado has used her position to advocate for minority rights.
