Johanna Calle’s visual lyricism acts in the opposite way to the genetic manipulation and the shift to cyborgs and robotisation: she builds a tree with the use of a typewriter.

What's the first thing you think of when I say Hot Spot?

Hot Spot from my perspective as a Colombian artist has a meaning not only of a tropical zone with an avarege of over 25 Centrigrades all year around, but also a zone of constant social, political and economic conflict, a lawless territory controlled by warlords and outlaws.

What is the "hottest" contemporary theme nowadays?

The participation of women artists in the collections of art museums worldwide. Meaning the comparison between the number of art pieces made by men artists versus women artists in art collections in museums worldwide.

How artistic practice can actively influence these issues?

Artistic practice is not only what artists do but also what curators as well as museums and art institutions program. As a collective, museums can program exhibitions about those issues, curators may choose artists, and artists addressings thems and subjects matters.

How was it to confront with other artists in Hot Spot?

It was a pleasure and an aesthetical experience. It was also a reasurement of the fact that artists worldwide have been studying different aspects through different media on the issues of climate change. My collaboration to the Hot Spot exhibition proposes a silent work.
