Somerset House Studios: LoneLady

Inspired by industrial landscapes, wastelands and Brutalist architecture, Studios resident Julie Campbell is an artist who seeks out unusual or dilapidated spaces in which to record and make work. Her post-punk influenced debut album, Nerve Up and recent funk and dance-inspired follow-up Hinterland both received widespread critical acclaim. All four singles released from Hinterland reached the 'A' Playlist on BBC6 Music and she received a Sky Arts nomination for Best Breakthrough Artist. Julie also works in other mediums which complement and offset her music including installations, immersive live events and video.

Whilst a resident at Somerset House Studios Julie occupied the navy’s former Rifle Range from 2016 whilst recording her forthcoming album. Her time with the studios was focused on developing, writing and recording new music with this unusual space as a context, and working with new analogue equipment.
