The secrets of the Ochrowa Adit
The exceptionally beautiful, hand-forged tunnel was created by hard mining work in search of gold, probably in the 16th century. At that time, no one had yet expected that its spring could be more than just drinking water.

The initial plan was to create a health resort in Złoty Stok
The adit water was tested, it was supposed to have the same properties and composition as the famous spa water from Cieplice near Jelenia Góra.
The city authorities got a permit to turn the town into a health resort and the works on extracting water began. Unfortunately, war broke out.
Second approach
In the 1930s, the work on excavating the drift began again. Old notes from the period mention that the town lovers, risking their lives, were examining the collapsing adit in order to reopen it. Unfortunately, at that point the Second World War broke out.
Third approach
Finally, in 2014, after years of searching for a completely filled tunnel, the owner of the nearby Gold Mine and her friends found a place where the earthworks could start. And right away, they came across a hand-forged fall tunnel.
At last!
After several years of hard work on securing various permits and on excavating and securing the adit, tourists could finally visit this magical space. The orange ocher deposit inspired the current owners to name the corridor the "Ocher Adit".
Today, the research on water is still ongoing. Its composition and health properties are being tested. However, the most important thing is that the adit has been made available to visitors. During the works, centuries-old ladders were found inside.
Today, everyone can admire its beauty
Adit is not only a beautiful example of restoration and reclamation of the former post-mining lands. It's also an example of how, out of love for their little homeland, a group of enthusiasts were able to do impossible things. They managed to find the lost tunnel, dig it out, and make it available to others.
