Treasures of Azerbaijan: Through the Wave of History

This exhibition hall demonstrates the cultural heritage and history of Azerbaijan.One of the most important features of the exhibition is that it describes all the periods of the history of Azerbaijan and displays items related to different areas of Azerbaijani culture. For instance, you can see unique samples of ancient crafts, in particular the Azerbaijani carpet weaving school.

Azykh CaveHeydar Aliyev Center

During the archaeological research at the Azykh Cave, the jaw bone of an ancient human(Azykhantrop) related to the Ashel Period, who had lived in these areas some 350-400 thousand years ago, was found, and as result of this find, Azerbaijan’s territory was introduced on the map of “the most ancient inhabitants of Europe”.

KamanchaHeydar Aliyev Center

Kamancha is a stringed musical instrument, with a body carved from mulberry tree, a thin membrane of stretched fish-skin covering the top and decorated with nacre. Fiddlestick is made of horsehair.

TarHeydar Aliyev Center

Tar is a plucked stringed musical instrument, with a body carved from mulberry tree, a thin membrane of stretched fish-skin covering the top, decorated with nacre. Length - 90 cm, Width - 20 cm. In 2012, the art of Azerbaijani craftsmanship and performance art of tar was entered on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO.

QavalHeydar Aliyev Center

Qaval is percussion instrument. The shape of Qaval is round and usually made of walnut tree and the membrane is skin of sturgeon. On the inner part of the frame there are 60 to 70 small round copper rings.

A series of fabric pieces found during archaeological excavations carried out in the territory of Azerbaijan shows that back in the period before Christ there were high dressing culture.
