Nîmes Open Game Art (NOGA)


The digital arts and video games festival was founded in 2013 in the Libraries of Nîmes. Exhibitions, artist residencies, creative experiences, free-to-play game consoles, meetings, and school activities are curated based on a different theme each year.

Tournaments, VR headsets, free to play, 3D printing, projections, Cosplay parade is also entertainment around the shared pleasure of video games, with famous godparents: Marcus, Fred of the dead, Kayane, Brigitte Lecordier and Céline Monsarrat, Aypierre… all have agreed to share with the Nîmes public their analysis of the sector, their art of dance, their expertise in certain games, their unforgettable voice…

Édition Peut-on faire société autour du jeu vidéo ? - 2022

ETIENNE MINEUR présente des jeux hybrides dans l’expo jouable scénographiée par KATIA SAMARI. LEON LENCLOS propose aux élèves de coder leur propre jeu typographique. Le collectif LA FABRIC’ART crée avec des étudiants le 3e épisode de TRACES, sur la lutte contre le Sida à Nîmes.

In 2021, the playable exhibition [REALITY(S)] explored the relationship between video games and reality and featured, among others, Ancestors, Ghost of Tsushima, Unravel Two, Eastshade, Beyond Blue, Prisme 7, and Superliminal.

[RÉALITÉ(S)] ([REALITY(S)])—2021 edition


The poster's design alludes to elements that feature in some of the games being exhibited. In the middle are the tower of EastShade, the torii (the Japanese sacred gate) from Ghost of Tsushima, and Yarni (the character from Unravel Two). Below these is the whale of Beyond Blue.


In the monkey's brain, the pawn comes from Superliminal and the forest that surrounds it is from Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, in which the player has to live the life of a whole troop of apes.

DATA & MOI (DATA & ME)—2019 edition


From while true: learn() , where the player embodies a machine learning specialist, to Watch Dogs 2 , featuring mass surveillance companies, the exhibition DATA & MOI discussed the issues at stake with digital data.

Vanishing Walks, created by Diego Ortiz and Antoine Gonot, challenges the actor-spectator relationship in a play performed on tablets by four spectators. It questions our digital lives through the use of avatars and personal data. (2019)

La ville comme terrain de jeu (The city as a playground)—2018 edition


Christophe Blanc and Jean-François Oliver from Nîmes created an escape game-like installation centered on the excesses of urban society. Four teams of wacky transhumanist superheroes join forces to sustain life in a city run by artificial intelligence.

Les mondes imaginaires (Imaginary worlds)—2017 edition

The Nîmes Open Game Art's fifth edition focussed on imaginary worlds. At this edition, Marcus and Fred of the Dead presented their latest game reviews live, the entire Zelda saga could be played, and a Delorean drove through the city of Nîmes.

Le corps augmenté (The enhanced body)—2016 edition


Health and video games? In 2016, Melanie Peron, creator of Bliss©, Digital Therapeutics (DTx) presented this medical-related device, which leverages the therapeutic potential of virtual reality for pain management. It is now used in hospitals.

For its third edition, the NOGA kept exploring the link between video games and digital creation. A specific focus was placed on the relationship between history and video games.

Jeu vidéo & musique (Video games & music)—2014 edition


Music writing and machinima workshops, coding basics, and a live 8-bit music concert, featuring Confipop, Jankkenpop, Bololipsum, were accompanied by conferences and a gamejam, organized with the CréaJeux school.

The origins of NOGA


The first edition of NOGA took place in 2013. The festival, developed from Alexandre Simonet's initiative, presented ARCADES EXPO. Plunged into darkness and surrounded by a vintage sound track, the audience discovered an arcade with REZ, OSMOS …
