Allgäu ceramics: Bright colours and traditional motifs
At her workshop s’ Alpgfihl at Busche-Berta-Haus in Ofterschwang, Sophie Mische makes tableware such as cups, cereal bowls, teapots, and even lamps out of ceramic—and all in Allgäu chic.
The hand-finished, individual painted decorations such as cows, edelweiss, and mountains, are all typical motifs from the Allgäu.

Working on the pottery wheel
Sophie Mische spins her work on a turntable, just as others have done for hundreds of years.

Blank slates of ceramic in all shapes and sizes are waiting to be finished. It takes multiple days and trips to the kiln to finish a cup or plate.
All of her pieces are unique, and the artist makes the glaze herself. The ceramics are glazed in bright colours.

Inspired by the nature of the Allgäu
A unique Alpine feel flows through Sophie Mische's pottery work, and gives her workshop its name- s’ Alpgfihl. She gathers inspiration on her walks: lush Alpine scenery, clear mountain lakes, edelweiss, and the brown cows typical of the Allgäu.
