The Pink Room (1991) by Netikorn ChinyoArt Centre Silpakorn University
Wooden beams and posts painted in red and the wooden doors painted in a Lanna style, Northern Thai culture, draw attention to the fine and realistic details from every brushstroke.
‘The Pink Room’ by ‘Netikorn Shinyo’ is inspired by the Lanna paintings on the walls and other architectural features using acrylic colors on canvas.
The Lanna mural paintings are simulated, adding contrast elements of light and shadow, as well as bright and dark colors. The colorful brushstrokes are done subtly on the edges.
Meanwhile, the center of the art is made prominent with vibrant colors and sharp brushstrokes, which encourages viewers to take steps back to appreciate the fuller view as well as the wooden doors.
The artist creates dimensions of the wooden doors and posts in the frame by using a variety of brush techniques to form patterns and fine details.
The paintings depict the expressions on the faces of a man and a woman courting each other.
The woman has her hair tied in a bun adorned with flowers, wears earrings, covers herself with a Sabai shawl, while the man in a black hat has flowers in one hand, and the woman’s garment in another.

This art harmoniously combines the aesthetics of Lanna Mural paintings, wood decoration in Lanna architecture, and the reimagination of the artist.
