The challenge
The MASI Project is oriented at creating a prototype of an emergency mechanical ventilator to fill the deficiency of ventilators faced as a result of the crisis caused by COVID-19.

Respirator assembly
For the design of the MASI prototype, all the minimum necessary characteristics that a ventilator of this type must have were considered.

Operating principles (I)
The system includes different modes of operation that a COVID-19 patient needs during critical stages of the disease.

Operating principles (II)
The system is based on a resuscitation bag that is responsible for ventilating the patient in an adequate and controlled manner.
MASI en funcionamiento (2020-09-11) by Sulsba Yépez SchwartzPontifical Catholic University of Peru
MASI working
To control the ventilator, key variables such as pressure, flow, and volume of the entire system are monitored.
Interfaz de MASI (2020-09-15) by Sulsba Yépez SchwartzPontifical Catholic University of Peru
User interface
The appropriate ventilation mode will vary depending on the condition of each patient. MASI has an interactive screen that allows the doctor, nurse or intensivist technician to monitor the patient's variables and condition, as well as change the ventilation modes.

Anomalies detection system
This system has the capacity to detect anomalies and generate both sound and visual alarms, which are also sent wirelessly so that the intensivist doctor receives them on his cell phone.

Participation of the PUCP community in MASI
The participation of members of the PUCP Community has been essential for MASI to successfully pass the phases of construction, design and validation, until starting up its production line.
