Collections origin
The photographs have a double origin: by heritage, from José de la Riva-Agüero y Osma, our benefactor; and by donation, like Calderón Andreu collection.
Wood balcony origin
According to Ignacio Gil (2011), the Lima balcony, like their spanish american peers, come from Canarias (Spain), a place where their edification prohibitions where elluded, althought, with andalusian influenced galleries and corridors.
The balcony factory
"(...) The construction of a balcony was (...) of importance among the items related to the presence and social representativeness of the home of an owner with certain resources" (Scaletti, 2017).
Riva-Agüero house
"(...) show a pair of late boxes (...) placed in a simetric way at both sides of the second body of the main front. (...) interior space is illuminated thanks to glass use, that provides illumination and ventilation" (Scaletti, 2017).
