Founded by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum was constructed with the intention of enshrining the Buddha’s relic. The construction commenced in 2001 and lasted for ten years. It was officially opened on the 25th December 2011.

On the right side of the Front Hall is an adult elephant, leading a herd of small elephants. The elephant represents noble dignity in Buddhism, for the Buddha rode a white elephant into his mother’s womb.

The Eight Pagodas on the both sides of the Great Path to Buddhahood are designed in the Chinese pagoda style. They symbolize the spread of Buddhism from India to China where it flourished.

On the highest point along its central axis of the Buddha Museum sits a magnificent, colossal statue.
