Antonines Fountain

Titus Flavius Severianus Neon and his wife, the most important benefactors of Sagalassos, were likely behind the construction of the Antonines Fountain. Neon belonged to the most important dynasty of Sagalassos, which maintained its influence and population in the city for centuries.

A magnificent fountain with seven different colored stones was built north of the Upper Agora in 160-180 AD.


The back wall of the Antonines Fountain has eight niches for statues, and the front façade has a row of columns placed on pedestals.

Town Square

Temple of Apollo Klarios

Until then, Apollo was not one of the most important gods of Sagalassos. However, Emperor Augustus felt a close connection to Apollo and believed that the god had chosen and protected him.

The Hill of Alexander

In 333 BC, when Alexander the Great and his army arrived at Sagalassos, where the people of the city defended themselves on this hill. Alexander's army eventually prevailed, capturing the city and bringing Sagalassos into the Hellenistic world.
