Since 1990, a Living Library!

Cultural activities have always been part of the daily life of the Brasilia Public Library.  Projects such as Story Time were offered, to interact with children and the community at large. The Library, in turn, fulfilled its role as a transformative agent in society.

A tribute to various poets through a display entitled "Highlight of the Month", where books by certain authors, included in the collection, were gathered. Biographies, poetry, phrases, and excerpts from the works, in order to provide a greater integration between the literary work, art and the audience. Through this contact, literature, theater, plastic arts, music, and cinema workshops were held.

In the 1990s, there was significant interaction between Library and School. The school frequented the Library all the time and the Library viewed the school as an ally in providing quality education and information to citizens.

The title already describes the activity, the author roused the audience with his verses, texts, and chronicles. Most of the authors invited were writers from Brasilia who wanted to hold book launches, workshops, or talks about their writing for the community in general.

A Mario Quintana city was constructed and sculptures created with scrap material inspired by Mario Quintana's work, where streets and structures were named for his poems.

Exhibition of the writer's work, using books, and newspaper clippings with a selection of several poems. The poem "Todas as vidas" was worked on through a debate with the poet's grandson Paulo Bretas and the students of the School Class 313 Sul FEDF in the nineties.

Do not let yourself be destroyed... Gathering new stones and building new poems. Recreate your life, always, always. Removes stones and plant rose bushes and make candy. Start over. Make your little life a poem. And you will live on in the hearts of the young and in the memories of future generations …

Students were invited to work on simple texts of the writer Cora Coralina. They were also invited to create poetry, draw and recite the poems.

In partnership with the Music Department of the University of Brasilia and other musical exponents, the project involved different ways of disseminating music through exhibitions, live performances, and recordings. The objective was to awaken in the community a knowledge and appreciation of various artistic-cultural manifestations.
 

It consisted of offering users and the community in general lectures on various topics with experts. The chosen themes contemplated relevance and timeliness. The Library held thematic exhibitions, which helped spread knowledge of its collection. 

How to handle your money. The lecture gave tips on the best ways to manage and use money to achieve a healthy and secure financial life

This enlightening lecture on well-being, longevity, and quality of life was given by volunteers: a doctor, a psychologist, and a nutritionist. The audiences could ask the experts and volunteers of the Lecture Cycle Project any questions they had about the topics covered.

On Children's Day we would read an exciting story to children in the schools near the Library. All done with a lot of joy, popcorn, and fun.
