The Piece of Paper Which Knew Everything

Eda Burma

Wednesday: Today we were told that my uncle was dead. I was very upset because I loved him so much and I had never seen him since he was hospitalized. But there was a question that bothered me. My uncle's a millionaire. I mean, shouldn't he have flown in special doctors from abroad?

Thursday: We found out today that my uncle left us all his money! What happened in the afternoon was a total mystery. We received a letter. The letter read, "Your daughter has inherited a piece of paper, which is included in this letter. Please don't throw it away." I was just about to throw away the piece of paper, when I murmured to myself, "Why would my uncle give me something like that?" and realized that something was written on the paper. And I read it: "Because I know everything." There was no writing on it before. I was very scared and immediately hid it in the drawer.

Tuesday: We just finished moving. My new room is big. Very big. I have a double bed, a brand new desk, a big screen TV, and shelves full of books. And that mysterious paper in my hand. I asked the paper:

- Will my mom organize a birthday party for me?
-No.
I was surprised.
-But it's my birthday tomorrow!
- I told you, they won't.
-Why?

Deniz and Magic

Narod Uluk

On a spring morning, Deniz sat down on the table for breakfast. Her mother gave her a piece of paper and her breakfast. She opened the paper and read something incredible.

Deniz: What! I have been admitted to magic school!
Mother: I have packed your suitcase, you are leaving tomorrow.

Deniz hugged her mom and ran out without even having her breakfast. She said goodbye to her friends and then came back home and lied down in her bed. She cried so much that her bed was filled with tears. She did not want to leave her family. Then she gave it a second thought. Actually, magic was really cool, and she wiped away her tears. Now she was feeling better.

Next day...
The next day she woke up, had breakfast, gave her mother a warm hug, and said goodbye to her family. She went to her friends, said goodbye to them, and then took the magic bus. She wondered how her new friends would be. When she arrived at the magic school, she drew on her head the same mark that she had seen on Harry Potter. Then she saw that everyone had the same mark. Harry Potter had studied at this school. Then he had left and went to another magic school. That's why everyone had that mark. Their first lesson at school was the time tunnel. "Great," Deniz thought. She entered the tunnel: Wow, it's so different. Then she entered the time tunnel and heard a voice saying, "The past, the present or the future?" The future!, Deniz responded, and saw that, the next day she would graduate from magic school and go home. She indeed returned home the next day; the reason for her graduation was that Harry Potter was her grandfather. They sent her away because many children had died when Harry Potter's family arrived.

My First Sailing Adventure

Zeynep Savaşkan

Preface: This book is dedicated to my family, my cousins and most importantly, my dear sailing instructor Seda (Seda Erdem).

Part 1: What kind of a place?
My mother took me to Caddebostan so that we wouldn't get bored at home in the summer. We walked along the road, but there was no place my mother could show me. I was surprised, it was incredible. I felt as though my mouth were on my forehead. An hour passed. My mom said, "Let's enroll you in a sailing school." We went there: I was to start next year. I was asking myself what kind of place it was.

Part 2: What are these?
Summer school was very interesting, and I had a lot of friends. There's a strange boat, which resembled a tub, and weird sails looking like kites. There are centerboards, rudders... But what were these?

Part 3: I feel great
A year passed, I got used to my friends, I got used to everything, and most importantly, I transitioned to team C. I did poorly in my first race though, we came last…

(Congratulations, you came to the most special part)

Part 4: My first international race
Urla was my first international race and I received my award on the day of ceremony.

The Explorer from Lethoso and the Land of Krimpinsort Fliggi

Umut Burma

(EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOTE:
THERE ARE NO PARAPGRAPHS IN THIS BOOK)

There was a country, far far away, that nobody knew about. It was called Krampinsort Fliggi. Its population was 85,000. The shape of the country was like this:

One day (on September 30, 2109), an explorer from Africa (Lethoso) discovered that land. He looked like this:

The man gaped with astonishment when he discovered that land. By pure coincidence, they spoke Arabic there. (The man had migrated from Morocco.) He asked them the following question:
- Do you have anything like weapons?
- No.
- Then let me ask you a question: Is there a word forbidden to say in this country?
- Yes, but I will write it down since it is forbidden to say out loud.
He took a piece of paper and scribbled on it, without letting the explorer see what he wrote. This was written on the paper:
Pringeste, Fringog, Pambay, Tempire, Jiyo, Dlimgassi,Ciyam, Griggazzzz, Pringpring, Tombalga, Çimpezzzy, Aymak, Trizmakitladk, Okkay, Aj, Pli Slovilley, Çika, Pöngö, Çia, Sssss, Kıssasimpray, Şul, Veliyo.

Once upon a time, an evil squirrel imprisoned a swan. The squirrel imprisoned the swan to be able to keep it at its home. The swan used to be all white and soft; but, as it received no food, it lost so much weight. The fluffy bear, which was leading a normal life, mustered the courage to beat the Evil Squirrel. However, there was little time left, since the elegant swan, which did not have anything to eat, was about to die. On its way, the fluffy bear came across a giant spider, which said “Hey, how dare you come to my country?!” in an angry tone. The bear tried to hide its fear, saying “None of your business!” and quickly ran away from that place.

Ready to shoot an animated film with ink painting? At this workshop, we experimented stop-motion which gives an impression that fixed three dimensional objects are moving.

Photos from the WorkshopsPera Museum

We first add alternating amounts of water into ink to get various hues, and use a soft brush to create our lavi painting.

Photos from the WorkshopsPera Museum

Then, we take photos of the lines and spots, which are gradually added onto the paper, and produce an animated film. And... Voila! The film is ready.
