Throughout his 20-year tenure, Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch has shown his commitment to creating an Eden for choreographers and dancers alike. With this vision in place, Welch has commissioned 37 new works by 28 choreographers for Houston Ballet.

Providing a choreographer with the opportunity to create a new work not only serves Houston Ballet, its dancers, and its community. It also amplifies the footprint of classical ballet, ushering in a new era of innovation and creativity.

The Shadow

Choreographed by Trey McIntyre, former Houston Ballet artistic associate, The Shadow premiered in Houston, TX on September 4, 2003.

Ketubah

Canadian-born choreographer, Julia Adam, created Ketubah on Houston Ballet dancers. It premiered on February 26, 2004.

Hush

One of Britain's leading choreographers, Christopher Bruce CBE served as associate choreographer at Houston Ballet for many years. In March 2006, he premiered Hush on Houston Ballet.

ONE/end/ONE

Internationally-acclaimed choreographer Jorma Elo created ONE/end/ONE on Houston Ballet dancers. It premiered on May 26, 2011.

Angular Momentum

Houston Ballet premiered Angular Momentum, a contemporary ballet choreographed by Aszure Barton, on September 20, 2012.

Murmuration

Edwaard Liang's Murmuration, inspired by the flocking patterns of starlings, premiered in 2013 for the Houston Ballet.

Praised for its high spirits, humor, and innovative use of structure,  The Letter V by Mark Morris premiered with Houston Ballet on May 28, 2015.

Justin Peck's Reflections, a ballet set to music by Sufjan Stevens, premiered on March 21, 2019, by the Houston Ballet.
