Early Works of Different Artists

The theater was found in 1985 and is a venue for the independent performing arts. It was one of the first of its kind in Norway, established by the artists themselves.

With little financial support Black Box Theatre was located on the harbour front at Aker Brygge, on the westside of the city. The area is characterized by shopping malls and equity fund offices.

In 2004 the theatre had to move to the east part of town. And as their contract run out in 2024, the theatre will have to move again.

The photograph is from Dansdesign’s production The Little Vampire. The production was played at Black Box Theatre, in Oslo, in 2001.

The photograph is from zero visibily corp.’s production, which was founded by Ina Christel Johannessen in December 1996 and closed in December 2021.

The Secret of No-Face

The production was played at Black Box Theatre, in Oslo, in 1985. The Secret of No-Face was a production by Boreas Bulreador, produced in 1984. The production was premiered at Vikateatret in Oslo. The Secret of No-Face was the group's first production.

En Kristen Time

The photograph is from Gorgon produksjoners production En kristen time (literally: a Christian lesson). A Christian hour was part one of the trilogy The Norwegian House (Det Norske Hus).

The production was played at Black Box Theatre, in Oslo, in 1997. The production had two actors, two dancers, two musicians (a singer and a pianist), and a circus fakir.

The photograph is from dancer and coreographer Odd Johan Fritzøes' production Zoom. Inspired by movement in the world of movies. Five dancers move together with animated clips and scenography focused on bodies and the roles they play.

The production was played at Black Box Theatre, in Oslo, in 2000.  Dancers: André Austvoll, Kenneth Flak, Thomas Gundersen, Camilla Myhre & Irene Rothmund Velten.

The photograph is from Aker Brygge 1986/87s production Smia. Smia (1986) was a theaterproduction initiated by the artistrun-project. 

The one-act play Smia was selected from several manuscripts submitted to a competition announced by the Aker Brygge realestate-company itself. The production was played at Black Box Theatre, in Oslo, in 1986.

Peer Pressure

The photograph is from Riksteatret, Black Box Theatre, Jo Strømgrens production Peer Pressure. Peer Pressure (1997) was a dance production by The Norwegian Touring Theatre in collaboration with Black Box Theatre.

It was based on Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen, in a dance version by Jo Strømgren. The production went on tour the autumn of 1997, with its tour opening in Skien. The production was played at Black Box Theatre, in Oslo, in 1997.

Biomechanics

The photograph is from Teater NORs production Biomechanics. Teater NOR has its roots in the physical theatre, with foundation in the work of Artaud, Meyerhold and Grotowski.

In the production Biomechanics the company wanted to examine Meyerhold’s work in particular, and they based the production in the constructivist tradition from Russia during the start of the last century.
