Selected Thematic Collections
• Carter Collection: Donated by John and Mary Carter in 1944. The items in this collection include a variety of ceramic vessels from various coastal Peruvian and Panamanian Cultures (Moche, Recuay, Chimu, Lambayeque, Chancay, Paracas, Nazca) and represent different time periods.
• Cressman Glass Collection: Bequest to the Museum in 1978 by the Cressman Family—ornamental glass and porcelains; a variety of etched, cut, overlay, cobalt glass; Wedgwood, Meisen, Royal Vienna and others.
• Mary Douglas Lewis Basket Collection: Donated by Mary Douglas Lewis, FSU alumna (1954). Items in this collection come from the Pacific coast region (Northern California, Oregon, Washington and up through British Columbia to Alaska) and represent examples of basketry created by Native American Indians. All records are in compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.
• Through the Flower: As a result of donations from Through the Flower, the Museum of Fine Arts has several Judy Chicago works from the Birth Project, including The Crowning Needlepoint 3, Swaddled by Nature, Birth Goddess Embroidery, The Crowning Quilt, Birth Embroidery 2 and Creation of the World Needlepoint 2. Selected works will be on tour in a national exhibition during 2017-18.
• Walmsley Collection: Over 950 works of art donated by William and Dorothy Walmsley, including prints by the artist and his colleagues, but an equal number of historical treasures from his personal collection from the 16th to the 20th century (including prints from Callot, Goya, Matham, Castiglione, Zorn, Villon and Dali).
• The Neil and Jane Mooney Collection of West African and South American art and artifacts: comprised of roughly 156 items, with a bequest arrangement to include other pieces. It is a singularly useful study collection for Non-Western courses in the Department of Art History at FSU and for faculty and their students at other educational institutions.
