Red, Rabbit and Rose

"Passion No.2" by Natthapong Phermlap

Passion No.2 (2006) by Natthapong PhermlapArt Centre Silpakorn University

Red is the color that is capable of attracting, enticing, and creating desires, whether it is emotional, sexual and power.

Apart from making the art stand out, red is used to create symbolic meanings with the white rabbits.

The inclusion of dark colors, green and blue, in certain areas creates dimension and contrast, which harmoniously yet powerfully depict emotions.

As the rabbits represent the prey in the natural food chain, it is also linked to sexuality and desire.

The red color seen in the eyes of the rabbits harmonizes with the red background which dominates the painting.

With the way the rabbits unite in a circular form, the painting depicts ever-growing desires.

Red rose petals not only work to enhance the major and minor parts of the painting, but they also represent love.

This oil painting is composed of the strength of red pigments as well as the prominent features of the rabbits and rose petals.

These symbols are meticulously selected by the artist Nattapong Permlarb, to express emotions in a rich yet melodious approach through shapes, stories, and composition.  Explore our artworks sorted by color here.
