Albert Bierstadt was a German-American painter who immortalized many scenes of the American west in the 19th century.  He was born January 7, 1830 in Solingen,Germany.  His family moved to Massachusetts in 1831.    Bierstadt was truly a master of seeing the light.  His work is Romantic and has a sense of fantasy as it seems every one of his paintings is a perfect magical moment.  Most of his paintings have high dynamic ranges of light and shadow.  His use of composition and detail enable viewers the opportunity to spend time in his paintings.  One can find tranquility and excitement at the same time in his work.
