Olmec art from many museum collections. The Olmec civilization thrived from about 1500 BCE to about 400 BCE in southern Mexico near the Gulf of Mexico. Olmec culture, including art, influenced later cultures including the Mayan, Toltecs, and Mexicas/Aztecs.
