The Annunciation is a prequel to the birth of Jesus. The angel Gabriel announces to the Virgin Mary that she will conceive the Christ child, the son of God. Mary humbly accepts this good news.
The Adoration of the Magi demonstrates the theme of the life of Jesus, by first portraying his birth. This birth scene is often called the Nativity Scene. The Magi come to adore the Christ child.

This painting depicts the Holy Family with St. Elizabeth and St. John, their extended family. Jesus is centered, symbolic of the center of life. Each parent is adoring their child.
The Baptism of Christ shows John the Baptist, baptizing Jesus with water. Angels are seen at this graceful event. A dove, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, is seen descending upon Jesus.

The Raising of Lazarus shows his sisters telling Jesus of the death of their brother. Jesus commands Lazarus to come out of the tomb. Lazarus awakens from death.
The Last Supper depicts Jesus instituting the eucharist by breaking bread with his disciples. They look astonished at the announcement that one of them will betray Jesus. Judas, the betrayer, is shown holding a money bag.

The Whipping shows Jesus receiving blows from whips. One guard is creating a crown of thorns. This indicates they plan to continue torturing him.

This painting shows Mary Magdalene embracing Jesus on the cross. This gesture shows Mary's trust in Jesus' saving power although death is near. Death is symbolized by the cross and also the skull on the ground.
The Resurrection depicts Jesus rising from the dead. He ascends into heaven from his tomb. The guards entrusted to ensure Jesus' tomb is not disturbed have failed by either being asleep or panic-stricken at the sight of his ascension and help from an angel.
Doubting Thomas, Sebastián López de Arteaga, 1000, From the collection of: Museo Nacional de Arte
The Doubting Thomas painting depicts Jesus appearing to his disciples, after his resurrection. Thomas doubted his resurrection. Jesus instructs Thomas to put his finger in his wound to show his resurrected flesh is alive. Thomas does so and proclaims Jesus as his Lord and God.
