With Howard Carter's discovery in 1922 of ancient Egyptian king Tutankhamun's tomb, the Western world entered its third and largest craze for things Egyptian. From architecture to commercial design, lotus leaves and heiroglyphics became common elements. Board games too often reflect such trends in popular culture, and Alderman Fairchild's Tutoom is a great example. Produced in 1923, just a year after the famous discovery, it includes many classical design elements and the play involves entering 'the tomb' to win.
