Lohans, or Arhats in Sanskrit meaning “perfect saints”, were disciples of the Buddha. Attaining an advanced state of spiritual enlightenment, they were revered as the protectors of Buddhist law. Generally represented in groups, lohans are depicted as engaged in thought, alert, and self-confident. Chota Panthaka is powerful, tough, and alert. In his hands is the staff of the Buddha.
