Eloff's Plantation is by the Dutch South African artist Pieter Wenning (1873-1921). Wenning normally painted dark impressionistic works like Eloff's Plantation, but due to his subject matter he had a difficult time being a full time artist in the country. Eloff's plantation is just North of Marabastad behind the modern-day Pretoria Sewage Works. A very small part of the plantation can still be seen against the side of the mountain today. Short Biography: Pieter Willem Frederik Wenning was born in 1873 in The Hague in The Netherlands. He immigrated to South Africa in 1905 where he lived in Pretoria. In 1909 he started to paint in oils and he was best known for landscapes with homesteads. He passed away in Pretoria in 1921.
