In year 1961, a highschooler in the Kirovohrad region accidentally discovered something, which later became known as the Hlodosy hoard. Although the name "treasures" has been attached to the find, its composition – jewelry, harness, dishes, weapons and burnt bones – indicates about a connection with the funeral rite. There is an assumption that these are hidden things from a robbed burial.
The complex is considered one of the relics of the Pereshchepina Circle, the ethnicity of which remains a subject of debate. It is assumed that they are connected with Great Bulgaria of Khan Kubrat or Khazar Khaganate.
The complex included about 100 gold artifacts weighing a total of 2,583 kg and about 70 silver items weighing 1,026 kg. Presumably, the owner of these jewels occupied one of the highest positions in the hierarchy.
The time and place of making jewelry differ. The oldest of them is a small Roman intaglio of the 2nd – 3rd centuries. It is inserted into one of the medallions, the later items date back to the 7th century. Decorations of weapons are related to the Eastern tradition, while tableware come from Iran. Most of jewelry were created by Byzantine masters. These decorations repeat the forms of usual Byzantine jewelry, but they are greatly exaggerated.
