Lohans, or Arhats in Sanskrit meaning “perfect saints”, were disciples of the Buddha. Attaining an advanced state of spiritual enlightenment, they were revered as the protectors of Buddhist law. Generally represented in groups, lohans are depicted as engaged in thought, alert, and self-confident. Vajriputra is very playful, the lion cub in his hand is very joyful. He is caught between tension and relaxtion. He gets along with all living beings.
