This handwritten letter from Susan B Anthony's father, Daniel Anthony, to his father, Humphrey Hicks Anthony, reads in part: "The Large Hicksite House is closed to everything except pure Religion - Opposition to and wrongs arising from our Laws & customs relative to Slavery - Intemperance war & all their attendant evils must not be the main object of any Speaker who talks in this House - Susan was therefore Minister to the congregation of old Uncle Abram whose apostolic goodness did not prevent the Holy Ones of East Hoosick from excommunicating him from his church for his rebellious acts..."
