Lohans, or Arhats in Sanskrit meaning “perfect saints”, were disciples of the Buddha. Attaining an advanced state of spiritual enlightenment, they were revered as the protectors of Buddhist law. Generally represented in groups, lohans are depicted as engaged in thought, alert, and self-confident. Nakula sits quietly cultivating his mind. He is calm, composed, serene, and dignified allowing him to enter paradise.
