One of the earliest Lutheran Church communities in Rochester was Concordia Church, founded in 1877. During the early 20th century the church sponsored sporting clubs for young men and women, community gatherings, and entertainment events. The archives, as well as photographic histories, are preserved in the Monroe County Library. The Concordia merged with the Zion church in 1961 to become the Church of the Incarnate Word, still on East Avenue in Rochester.
