Refettorio Gastromotiva

Refettorio Gastromotiva is the result of a partnership between Chef Massimo Bottura, journalist Alexandra Forbes and the Brazilian NGO Gastromotiva, run by chef David Hertz. Together they assembled a creative team including Vik Muniz, Maneco Quinderé, the Campana brothers and METRO to create the architecture, art and design for this new environment. The space where the Refettorio was built, was provided by the Rio de Janeiro’s City Hall and is located between the Lapa Arches and the Aterro Do Flamingo in the neighborhood of Lapa. Designed to be welcoming and accessible to everyone, Refettorio Gastromotiva is clad in translucent polycarbonate panels so that the light shines through the walls illuminating the neighbourhood and sending a message of openness to the whole community.
