Special Collections & University Archives at UNC Charlotte's J. Murrey Atkins Library is a leading institution dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the Charlotte region. Among the topics documented are African American history, civil rights, city planning and urban development, education, politics, and LGBTQ+ history. Research materials are freely open to the public. These include the personal archives of individuals, families, and local organizations, as well as rare and unique books, maps, local government documents, oral history interview recordings and the university's historic records. Atkins Special Collections works collaboratively with the community to document the continual growth and change of the Queen City.
