do ut do is a space for initiatives promoted by the Associazione Amici della Fondazione Hospice, with the aim of raising funds for Fondazione Hospice Seràgnoli Onlus.
Every two years do ut do promotes events dedicated to art, music, fashion, design and culinary art, involving institutions, companies, collectors.
The 2012 edition was dedicated to contemporary art, launched by an exceptional godmother, Yoko Ono; do ut do’s 2014 edition, focused on design, had as godfathers the Masbedo.
do ut do 2016 has been dedicated to design, art and architecture and had the honour to be patronized by Nobel Prize Dario Fo and by the inspiring artist and tutor Alessandro Mendini. Alessandro Mendini has drawn, especially for do ut do, a magical home whose rooms are dedicated to the values of living and have been designed by famous architects and designers.
The main trait of this edition is represented by virtual reality. Thanks to the collaboration with Vitruvio Virtual Museum and Google Cultural Institute, Mendini’s home and the rooms have been converted in 3D and all do ut do’s works have been uploaded to the Google Arts & Culture site.
As in the past editions, the artists and designers have donated their own art works. Most of them have been produced pro bono by the best Italian manufacturers.
do ut do 2016 has been presented with a preview at ArteFiera Bologna and then officially opened at University of Milan and Peggy Guggenheim Collection of Venice, respectively in April and May. Throughout 2016 do ut do’s installations have been displayed in Reggia di Caserta, MADRE Museum (Naples), MAXXI (Rome), MAMbo (Bologna), MART (Rovereto) and at the Circolo dei Lettori in Turin. The complete collection of works has been exposed in Pinacoteca Nazionale of Bologna in November 2016.
The art works have been assigned to donors during a charity dinner at MAST of Bologna, with the exceptional participation of chef Silvio Greco from SlowFood.
