The Spanish gemological institute (IGE) is a non-profit association, established in 1967 by a group of Spanish jewelers with the purpose to promote and spread the study of gemology and to guarantee a neutral perspective of the quality of the gemstones and jewels, advocating to research in everything related to the origin, economic value, synthesis, treatments, and enhancements of gems.

IGE has a reputable gemological Laboratory, appraisal department and, nowadays, is the first Spanish speaking institute of gemology in the world, also founder and member of the Federation of European Education in Gemology, F.E.E.G.
