Les Arts Volant: Opera Takes Flight

Les Arts Volant ('Flying Arts') brings the magic of opera to all Valencian communities, stimulating the love for this scenic art.

Les Arts Volant is a project carried out in collaboration with various Valencian administrations, based on a simple idea: To offer a lyrical experience to citizens with difficult access to an opera house, with the same technical and scenic conditions as any other theatre.

The company travels in a large truck converted into a stage and offers a live opera performed by artists from the Centre de Perfeccionament (Les Arts Opera Studio), accompanied by piano. The show is free of charge.

The 2022 Les Arts Volant tour celebrated Valencian composer Vicente Martín i Soler. Born in Valencia in 1754, he is unknown to most people, but his popularity in imperial Vienna rivalled that of Mozart himself.

Martín i Soler moved to Bologna to complete his training and composed his first opera in Madrid. Premiered at the Court, it continued to triumph at the Teatro del Real Sitio de la Granja with a Castilian version called "La madrileña".

In Martín i Soler's opera, Don Lelio's love for Violante is challenged by her belief that love only exists after meeting Pippo, a rich shepherd. Their interactions lead to humorous lessons for all.

The set for El Tutor Burlat evokes the youthful spirit of Martín i Soler, using a romantic, 19th-century postcard aesthetic with a modern twist. Soft pastel colors create a light and fun atmosphere.
