A New Tomorrow That Starts Today (2021) by Meir TatiMattress Factory

"A New Tomorrow That Starts Today," Meir Tati, 2021

A New Tomorrow That Starts Today draws inspiration from the comic-book world, while also using a B-movie and sci-fi aesthetic language. Meir Tati's new installation depicts a series of mutants, whose faces are composed of fragmented diverse political leaders, such as Trump, Netanyahu, Putin, Erdoğan and many more.

The superpower these politicians obtain is the power given to them by the citizens, and this is how they became "super-humans." The mouth in the video addresses the audience with a series of re-edited monologues, taken from various comic-book based movies.

This work is a continuation of Tati's artistic practice, drawing inspiration from current political affairs while referencing pop-culture and the world of sci-fi and comic books; mixing documentary and fiction, by creating complex installations that ask questions regarding our perception of reality and history.

Open Square (2021) by LuftwerkMattress Factory

"Open Square," Luftwerk, 2021

Luftwerk's interest in the relationship between color and light is the driving force behind the creation of Open Square. The installation takes the shape of a square - universal in its simplicity; a pure expression of a spatial idea, complete in itself; a shape that can be turned into triangles or rectangles - as the building block for its layout.

Open Square (2021) by LuftwerkMattress Factory

Consisting of two interconnected square spaces, each painted in contrasting color patterns and illuminated with color changing light, they shift the viewer's spatial recognition, giving the illusion of revealing and dissolving spaces. Developed throughout the COVID-19 lockdowns of 2020, the exhibition reflects on the habitat that defines our everyday experience.

The duality of light and dark, cold and warm, the cyclical flow of the installation is a contemplation of the physical experiences of interior space and how our perception can shift through color, light and sound.

Surmatants - Mars Rising (2021) by Andréa StanislavMattress Factory

"Surmatants - Mars Rising," Andréa Stanislav, 2021

Andréa Stanislav’s Surmatants - Mars Rising is an elegiacally visceral response to the COVID-19 pandemic in three acts — informed by Pittsburgh’s Slavic immigrant labor history, and 13th century bubonic plague imagery — through a release of dance.

Surmatants - Mars RIsing (2021) by Andréa StanislavMattress Factory

Tenants of Russian Cosmisim and transcendence are evoked through Jesse Gelaznik’s musical compositions, paired with renowned choreographer Željko Jergan and John Harbist’s dances performed by the Tamburitzans.

The installation is structured through a physical ascent, connecting three spaces (the white room, red room, and black room) — crescendoing to a three channel circular video projection transmitting a human resurrection on Mars from the future.

Society of 23's Trophy Game Room (2021) by Jeffrey Augustine SongcoMattress Factory

"Society of 23’s Trophy Game Room," Jeffrey Augustine Songco, 2021

Jeffrey Augustine Songco's Society of 23’s Trophy Game Room is a place where the brothers of the Society of 23 go to relax, play games and bask in their awesomeness. The installation is a complex network that reveals the construction of an identity of American greatness that emphasizes value through leisure and competition.

The Society of 23 brotherhood is informed by the anxieties of living in a very real and actual American culture that continues to fail and dismiss bodies and stories like the artist's own.
