Stories of Argentinean Producers: Sea Salt in Chubut

From the Patagonian coast to the salt cellar: a story of artisanal producers.

Majestic Patagonia

To the south of the province of Chubut the coast becomes rocky. It is a typical Patagonian scene: the temperatures are low, the wind blows strong, and the water is cold. These are beaches that have not been contaminated in any way—the water is crystal-clear.

Incredibly Pure

This is the setting where many local producers collect sea salt with the highest levels of purity following an artisanal method, where the sea water is collected at points that are completely free of any contamination.

When the sea water evaporates, the minerals forming it crystallize into the characteristic form of sea salt sheets, breaking away from the hegemony between fine and coarse salt.

This results in a salt that is much more manipulable and convenient while cooking.
