Beyond the Copper Pot: Turkish Coffee Preparation

While the copper coffee pot, cezve, is essential for the perfect brew, there is a multitude of factors that go into the perfect cup of Turkish coffee.

Using one of the most time-honoured brewing methods, Turkish coffee is prepared from finely ground coffee beans simmered in a cezve without filtering the coffee.  This is the very reason Turkish coffee has a uniquely full-bodied, bold flavour to it.

Just like the selection of high-quality coffee beans, the water that goes into the cezve is also vital to the perfect brew.

Lime-free, cold water is first boiled and cooled, then with the fresh coffee and preferred amount of sugar, it is brought to a boil.

After the initial boil, the foam is distributed into each cup with finesse. Then the cezve is returned to heat, and once the remaining coffee boils again, it is poured into the cups.
