Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Youth Education Programs
The Atlanta Symphony has two programs aimed at educating the next generation of classical musicians: The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Talent Development Program.
The Talent Development Program
The TDP was founded in 1993 by Azira Hill (pictured right) and Mary Gramling and is of the longest-running, year-round musical education diversity programs.
Private Instruction
The TDP offers 25 young Black and Latinx musicians instruction and mentoring from Atlanta Symphony musicians as well as performance opportunities.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the program, alumni Khari Joyner joined Concertmaster David Coucheron on stage.
TDP Fellows Excellence
More than 100 TDP Fellows have gone on to attend top music schools and conservatories across the country including The Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, Manhattan School of Music and the Peabody Institute.

Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra
Established in 1974, the ASYO provides Atlanta’s most talented and dedicated students an outlet to perform masterworks.
Recruitment
Each year, more than three hundred rising eighth to rising twelfth graders audition for seats in the orchestra. The ASYO recruits advanced young musicians to study alongside their most talented peers.
Performance Opportunities
The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra presents a three-concert series each year, and members have exclusive invitations to participate in readings and master classes with the top artists in the instrumental music industry.
Several members of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra are also members of the Talent Development Program.
The ASYO strives for national preeminence among youth orchestras, while cultivating the artistic growth and excellence of its members through enriching orchestral experiences and mentoring by ASO musicians.
