Never Gallery Ready (NgR)
These works were created by young people ages 11-18 over 2 summers (2018 and 2019) in digital arts projects called Picture This! In these projects, participants worked with SLR cameras to learn about how to use and contribute to online stock image libraries and bring their surroundings to life by animating photos in their shared project library.
Capturing Our Surroundings
Projects began with photo hunt activities. Participants capture pictures of their neighborhood and gather images for their shared project image-library, using prompts such as: a faces in architecture, something broken, a line found in nature, a wide shot, etc. to learn digital photography techniques and terminology.
Multi-narrative Photo Essays
Participants play with arranging the photographs they have taken to explore how order can direct meaning and image curation can be used to tell stories with multiple story-lines.
Content Contributors
Pictures taken in photo hunt activities are added to a stock image library and made available through creative commons licensing, after undergoing a peer-review process. Visit Never Gallery Ready's website to download images for free and use them in your art or promotional materials!

Under Camera animation
Participants work with paper collage, their photographs and personal portfolio of drawings to learn "under camera" animation techniques for making 2-3 frame animations.
Window Curtain animation (2018) by participants ages 12-19Never Gallery Ready (NgR)
Using only 3 images, they learn how re-order images to create fluid movements and looped-animations.
Bringing Life to Pictures
Participants then use photographs taken by the group for the project library, as well as images they sourced through stock-image libraries online to create frame animations that bring pictures to life in playful ways that mix reality and cartoon worlds.
Mystery Bookcase (2019) by participants ages 11-18Never Gallery Ready (NgR)
Digital Studio
Participants learn to create animations entirely inside a computer, using software to animate their photographs.
